Double success for SATTLER at the FOCUS OPEN 2018 Design Awards: The Palito pendant luminaire received the Gold Award and the modular Favo lighting system a Special Mention.

Playing with perception: The Palito pendant luminaire seems to render the laws of gravity ineffective. Suspended asymmetrically, the rod-shaped luminaire floats horizontally in the room. The slim shape gives Palito a particularly elegant appearance, even when several luminaires are combined and playfully interact as if in a mobile.

Gold Award at the FOCUS OPEN

The jury of the renowned FOCUS OPEN Design Award was so convinced by the concept and design of the Palito luminaire that it awarded the highest accolade possible: Gold. „The luminaire not only surprises with its delicate appearance, but particularly with its continuous, adjustable balancing act, founded in the asymmetrical suspension. This way, several luminaires can interact playfully – as in a mobile,“ was the jury’s ruling.

In addition to the slim luminaire body, Palito features some other interesting details. By means of a knurled screw, reminiscent of the operating dials of 1970s HiFi components, the luminaire can be put into the desired position - either perfectly horizontal or deliberately at an angle - via an integrated, finely adjustable counterweight. State-of-the-art LED technology, combined with perfectly adjusted lenses, permits high lighting values and glare-free light emission. Palito is dimmed contact-free with a sensor, via unobtrusive gestures. The luminaire is offered with a brushed surface in various colours, or in a polished version.

From the idea of a mobile to a minimalist luminaire structure

„Palito was inspired by the delicate structures of a mobile, where the individual elements are suspended in space freely, yet connected to each other,“ explains Ulrich Sattler when talking about the development of the luminaire. Based on these ideas and the need for the luminaires to achieve an impressive appearance individually or in combination, SATTLER developed the details of the product design in the tried and tested cooperation with Michael Schmidt from code2design. Michael Schmidt, „Palito – a bright rod that seems to float weightlessly in space. It‘s as fascinating as it is poetic.“

An exciting variation on this luminaire series is the Palito Mikado luminaire. The dynamic appearance of crossing lines corresponds to the delicate structure of the luminaire rods. The extraordinary effect of direct and indirect light in the room makes the design a lighting object with a special attraction.

The modular Favo lighting system also received high praises by the jury of the highly desired, non-profit design award of the Design Centre Baden-Württemberg: „Favo is a very sophisticated system that permits multiple combinations and can therefore adjust to many different room configurations.“ The lighting system received the „Special Mention“ award at the FOCUS OPEN 2018. Favo is special due to its honeycomb-shaped light cells with downlights or spots that can be expanded to a larger lighting structure at its nodes. The concept and design were developed by blocher partners. The technical development and implementation is in the hands of SATTLER.

A joyful surprise at the side stage of the FOCUS OPEN prize award ceremony: The Palito luminaire received the „Winner“ award by the German Design Award 2019 for its „outstanding design quality“. The prize will be presented in February 2019.
