MORE COMMUNICATION AND EFFICIENCY Medical equipment company opts for openness and light. The light concept also contributes to sustainability. New working environments in companies are often characterised by openness. Buzz words such as flexibility, innovation and transparency determine the design concept for workplaces. The Maastricht-based firms N architecten and N interieurarchitecten have developed a corresponding interior concept for the US company Boston Scientific, which specialises in the manufacture of innovative medical equipment. The design featured Nimbus luminaires, which consistently and sustainably light up the new premises of Boston Scientific. MULTIFUNCTIONAL AND OPEN MEETING ZONES In 2016, the offices were redesigned to achieve lively communication between employees and more efficiency within the company. A major element of the new room layout is the opening-up of the structures. A vertical connection over several floors along the staircase has been installed in the centre of the building, thus creating a more airy and flexible space. Here multifunctional, open meeting zones encourage communication and open up visual links between the various zones and floors of the building. The planners used visually effective printed glass walls to separatethe conventional desktop workplaces, which require quieter surroundings. ATTRACTIVE AND IMPRESSIVE WORKPLACES Nimbus LED luminaires featured prominently in the development of the new lighting concept. As the architects commented: "One of Nimbus's strengths is that its range includes consistent solutions for all lighting requirements." They then went on to say: "What's more, the Nimbus luminaires makes a decisive contribution to the building's sustainability. The sustainability concept earned a LEED certificate in silver." The conference room was fitted out with a long Nimbus Modul L luminaire, whose light focus concentrates on the large table. The architects installed wide-area lighting in the open meeting and communal zones. The planners selected a mixture of wide-area and selective lighting with Nimbus luminaires from the Modul Q and Modul R ranges in the zones with desktop workplaces. An eye-catching, extravagant light sculpture hovers in the centre of the space around the open staircase. And so, also thanks to the lighting concept, the offices meet the demands of a modern working environment and provide attractive, impressive workplaces for employees and visitors. Photo: Nimbus Group / Frank Ockert ABOUT THE NIMBUS GROUP The Nimbus Group was founded by the architect Dietrich F. Brennenstuhl in 1988. It is different from most other enterprises and being different has helped the company to explore new avenues. Nimbus was the very first company to place its faith in LED technology, thus giving itself a global lead over the competition. The company has realised around 15,000 LED projects since 2006 and can now call upon a wealth of experience: its spectrum ranges from fitting out houses, doctors' practices, schools and boardrooms through to company headquarters like the Unilever head office in Hamburg, the ADAC headquarters in Munich and the head office of the WTO in Geneva. The same innovative ability also finds expression in the Rossoacoustic brands of highly flexible shading and room-partitioning systems; this is particularly apparent in the integrated acoustics solutions, which were developed using the latest findings from science and research. The brands in both fields – light and acoustics – have joined forces in pursuit of innovation. Together with leading research institutes, the Nimbus Group is developing acoustically effective LED lighting solutions and further new products aimed at optimising office design. The Nimbus Group has also lived up to its role as an innovator with a whole new range of luminaires: they consistently embody the idea of battery-powered cableless light that is available whenever and wherever it is needed. With their top-quality, appealing design, the lightweight and effortlessly rechargeable luminaires fit in perfectly with the company’s philosophy. The Nimbus Group is a member of the renowned "German Design Council" foundation and a founding member of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).
