"It is here to stay." The thing in question is the home office. In her "Home Report 2021", the renowned living and trend expert Oona Horx-Strathern is sure that the "Hoffice" – a word coined by Horx-Strathern combining home and office – will remain an important part of our everyday lives. However, she emphasises that we need the right equipment, i.e. the technology and furniture. So it is good that there are solutions like the JobTisch. Häfele is an internationally successful specialist for furniture fittings and architectural hardware.Together with Nimbus, a subsidiary of the group, and the ID AID design agency, the company has developed this compact, ergonomic desk for the home office. The jury of the interzum awards was convinced by the quality of this item of furniture, praising the JobTisch for its "high product quality".

Mobile working or working from home has become a reality for many people due to the corona pandemic. "In the future too, working from home full time will remain an exception. Nevertheless, many people will spend more of their working hours in their home office than before corona – with more flexibility and alternating with days in the office," reports Hendrik Hund, chairman of the Interior Business Association (IBA), while also emphasising: "In the longer term, productive work within one's own four walls will only be possible if the provisional workspaces tolerated over a longer period during the pandemic are turned into genuine home offices. It will therefore be necessary to think more thoroughly than we have so far about how we equip our workspaces at home."

Häfele also recognised this development at an early stage and at the end of 2020 began working flat out on its concept for the JobTisch. With its elegant design reminiscent of a traditional writing desk and its 156 possible variations, the JobTisch can be adapted to almost any living environment – even where little space is available.

Highly practical with a high-quality design

"The JobTisch we designed for Häfele is an electrically height-adjustable sit-stand workplace with sophisticated functionality that offers a great degree of freedom in terms of the final design," says the designer Sven von Boetticher, who manages the ID AID design agency in Stuttgart. The ergonomic JobTisch comes fully assembled and is unrivalled in terms of its level of functionality: it is equipped with integrated power and USB sockets, an under-desk drawer plus a magnetic rear wall including magnets.

Perfect light for video conferences

Häfele and ID AID collaborated with the lighting expert Nimbus, a company in the Häfele group, to preconfigure the desk in such a way that the Roxxane LED workplace luminaire can be mounted with little effort and ensuring a perfect fit. The classic design from the Stuttgart light manufacturer provides perfect lighting for the home office workplace. Touchless gesture control enables intuitive operation and dimming, and the special current dimming system guarantees that the luminaire remains 100 percent flicker-free – an essential prerequisite for today's frequent video conferences.

DIN-compliant solution and 156 possible variations

When developing the JobTisch, Häfele already considered that in future employers would be increasingly involved in equipping home office workplaces. That is because companies have a corresponding obligation when the workplaces are used on a regular basis. And so the larger version of the JobTisch – with a generous work surface measuring 1200x800 mm or 0.96 m2– meets the DIN EN 527-1 standard for professional office desks.

The JobTisch is available in two sizes, and the designers have selected 78 possible colour combinations and surface variations for the item – from veneer and traditional decorative materials through to pleasant to the touch desktop linoleum. Häfele has developed an online configurator to help customers visualise their preferred option, and, using the Häfele augmented reality app, they are able to virtually position the JobTisch to see how it looks in their own home.

Ergonomic workplace for the "Hoffice"

Workplaces – including those at home – have a major effect on our health. Musculoskeletal conditions remain the most common cause of days off work due to illness. The JobTisch provides a perfect way of countering such problems as its electrical height-adjustment function allows the user to make the healthy switch between sitting and standing in the wink of an eye. Using the Desk ControlTMapp, it can be connected to and controlled by a PC or laptop. The program prompts the user to stand and sit while working. It recommends constant alternation, thereby ensuring mobility that eases the strain on the back and improves blood flow.

Häfele also presented the JobTisch at the interzum @home trade fair in May. During the fair, the solution received the interzum award in the category intelligent material & design 2021. "High product quality" was the jury's verdict in awarding the prize to the JobTisch. The award, organised by Koelnmesse in collaboration with Red Dot, underlines "the significance of design as a factor in value creation" according to Maik Fischer, the director of interzum.

A good home office is more than just a good desk

Häfele has preconfigured a number of options to go with the JobTisch for anyone wanting to complete or optimise their home office. There is a high-quality, height-adjustable, multi-purpose stool that adds mobility to everyday work plus an ergonomic, comfortable office chair. Nimbus's Rossoacoustic system provides lightweight, movable partitioning. It is sound shielding and sound absorbing, thus enabling perfect conditions for concentration when working from home. "At home we need to differentiate more clearly between working and living," emphasises living expert Oona Horx-Strathern. Häfele's coordinated solutions already allow us to do so today.
